- Sorry to hear about the possible Java problem. Nowadays, it seems all too
- often that upon accessing a web site, executable files are transparently
- downloaded to the receiving computer. I'm wary myself when I see "applet
- running" or midi files begin playing without any notice, but that seems to be
- the current direction of the technology.

- As for the complexity (ie those dip-switches) of some systems, I recall my
- attempts in the very early 1980's to understand how my new IBM PC worked. My
- only guide was the Technical Reference Manual (written by IBM). It was so
- confusing, I eventually had to give up trying and I'm not a stupid person.
- My belief is that some things are purposefully made difficult to understand
- so that the jobs or careers of the persons responsible for maintenance are
- not in jeopardy. I was happy to see IBM stock practically crash in the
- 1980's and thought a well deserved lesson was learned.
